School Of Promise Project

In the forests of Borneo and Sumatra, orangutans face complete extinction, threatened by activities like habitat destruction and poaching.

Over the past century, the wild population of these friendly creatures has declined by over seventy-five percent.  Currently, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature classifies the Bornean orangutan as endangered (41,000 remaining) and the Sumatran orangutan as critically endangered (just 7,500 remaining).  At this rate, orangutans could perish from the earth in as little as twenty years.
